Moles
The Mole, Talpa Europea, the only mole which is widespread in the UK, its population dramatically increasing due to the wet and mild winters. These creatures are on the increase around our homes and farms, burrowing huge networks of tunnels under gardens and fields, can be up to 20m per day. The potential risk in fields is for livestock to break through the tunnel network and this can lead to the animal straining or breaking a leg. Damage to agricultural and garden machinery can be done by exposure of stones. In the garden the mole can rapidly deplete your worm population, as they need 20 worms a day to survive. The appearance of lawns can be ruined as each individual mole can produce 2 mole hills a day and their tunnels damage the roots of young plants, flowers and vegetables.
